Crazy Unlimited LTE Downloads Extended!

Smart Communications Inc. sent out a press release yesterday announcing that Smart LTE mobile broadband subscribers for both Plan 1749 and Plan 3500 will enjoy unlimited downloads (no bandwidth cap) until January 2013. This is the second major upgrade that the Smart LTE product has received in the last week. The initial announcement was that the unlimited downloads would last until October 25 and after that a 10GB monthly cap would be imposed. During the weekend Smart also revealed that they doubled the monthly cap for Plan 3500 which is now at 21GB.

This is a very welcome announcement especially for LTE subscribers. The extension of the unlimited downloads also gives people more incentive to get the Smart LTE Pocket WiFi package (details in the link above).

At this point we’ve pretty much exhausted all potential news for LTE mobile broadband. The next step really is for LTE-powered smartphones. Globe has already announced their line-up which is bannered by the black Samsung Galaxy S3. However their LTE hasn’t launched yet and when they do it will only be in Makati City. Smart hasn’t made any formal announcements yet but we expect them to field a variety of Android handsets as well as the upcoming LTE-enabled iPhone 5.
