We’ve heard rumors that Sony was mulling pullout of their mobile operations in the Philippines, and it looks like the rumors are true. According to a corporate strategy day held earlier, Sony is now defocusing their efforts in multiple countries to try and keep their mobile arm profitable, focusing on countries that they think their phones will sell.
Looking at the slide below, it looks like the Philippines and much of Asia has been defocused, along with big markets like Australia, Canada, South America, Mexico, Middle East, and others.
Many of Sony’s mobile stores in the Philippines have been taken over by other brands, and while some Sony stores are still selling phones, no new models have cropped up on our shores. If you’re part of the Xperia faithful, that means you’ll have to get creative if you want to buy their latest handsets.
