As expected, Sony has announced their newest flagship device, the Xperia Z2. Sony’s new flagship is eerily similar to its older brother, but we’re sure a lot of people prefer it that way, since the Xperia Z1 was a great smartphone to begin with, both in terms of design and hardware.

It’s understandable then that Sony didn’t muck around too much with the design of the Z2, putting a slightly larger 5.2-inch full HD display that gives the Xperia Z2 a pixel density of 424 ppi. The Xperia Z2 still uses Sony’s Triluminos display with their X-Reality engine, although the company now uses a new technology called Live Color LED, which is basically a new IPS panel that gives the Z2 much better color reproduction and viewing angles. As expected, the Z2 is still pretty much water resistant, rated at IP55 & IP58 for dust and water resistance respectively.

As far as the processor is concerned, the Xperia Z2 uses a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, paired with 3GB of RAM that should make short work of any and all tasks that you put before it.

16_Xperia_Z2_SurfThe original Xperia Z excelled in the imaging department, and that’s not going to change anytime soon with the Z2, thanks to the 20.7-megapixel camera, 1/2.3-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor, G lens and BIONZ image processing engine. The Xperia Z is also capable of taking 4K video (3840×2160 pixels/30p).

No price has been set for the Xperia Z2 that we know of, but we are sure that it’ll definitely burn a hole in your pocket when it launches globally on March 2014.
