There’s a catch, however
Sony is not canceling the Xperia Compact line just yet: there are more talks about bringing it back as part of Sony’s revamped strategy.
Rumored to be the Xperia 4, the upcoming compact phone will also have a tall display at 5.7-inches. Recent sketches show that the Xperia 4 will have the same width as the Z5 Compact and XZ2 Compact. Because of its 21:9 display, the Xperia 4 will be 14mm taller than the XZ2 Compact.
As for the thickness, the Xperia 4 will be 8.3mm thin. That makes it significantly slimmer than the XZ2 Compact, which is 12.1mm thick. Unlike the XZ2 Compact, the Xperia 4 will be more of a mid-range phone like the Z5 compact. That means we expect it to use a Snapdragon 710 processor.
As much as we are excited for a compact offering from Sony, reports indicate that the Xperia 4 will be exclusive to Japan via NTT DoCoMo.
