Sony’s making waves in its home country

While it’s no secret that Sony’s mobile division is struggling in many markets worldwide, that’s exactly the opposite in Sony’s home country of Japan. The land of the rising sun is completely opposite and drastically different market compared to the rest of the world – it’s where Samsung struggles to sell phones and Sony is a market leader in smartphones.

In Sony’s home turf, their Z3 Compact is the best selling smartphone, beating out even Apple’s iPhone 6. This is according to Gfk, from data taken beginning April 4 to 10. It’s not really surprising to see why – we awarded Sony’s Xperia Z3 Compact our Best Compact Smartphone of the Year award last year because of how good the phone was, in terms of performance and more importantly, battery endurance (more than 2 days on a single charge wut).

While Sony hasn’t announced a replacement for the Z3 Compact as of yet, they’ve already announced the M4 Aqua (that we managed to get a hands-on of during MWC) as well as the Xperia Z4. We’re hoping that Sony continues making the Compact series, as there isn’t any decent 4.7-inch flagship device out there in the market (aside from Apple’s iPhone 6).
