Starmobile gearing up to launch new devices?
After the successful launch of the Astra and the Crystal, rumors are abuzz that Starmobile is gearing up to launch a 5-megapixel Android smartphone with HD display and a 12-megapixel camera with backside illumination. We’re not sure yet about the operating system but imagine if they throw in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean? That’s a pretty compelling product if you ask me and it will be a sure-sell if they price it competitively. The Philippines, after all, is a very price-sensitive market, especially for electronics. 😀
Where did this come from?
A news report from Hardware Zone PH states that during the dealer event of Starmobile in late November they revealed two 5-inch devices that will ship Q1 2013. Check out the screenshot below for details on the two devices.
As you can see above the “Premium Android” device has the specs we talked about earlier.
It’s fascinating that the emerging tech heroes aren’t the international brands but the local ones like Starmobile. It will be interesting to see how this will all play out in the next few months. One thing is for sure though, the local brands will continue to dominate the entry level and value-for-money segment. Samsung, Sony, etc., you guys have a lot of catching up to do. 😛
