The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX531 Is The World’s Slimmest Gaming Notebook

When you need a small but powerful gaming machine

ASUS has announced what they’re calling the thinnest gaming notebook in the form of the Zephyrus S GX531. The new gaming machine from their Republic Of Gamers brand sports a thickness of just 14.95mm at its thinnest point, while still having fairly powerful internals for the mobile gamer.

Despite being 12% slimmer than the originalZephyrus GX501, the GX531 still has fairly powerful internals in its chassis: Intel’s latest Core i7-8750H CPU and NVIDIA graphics, up to the GTX 1060. There’s 8GB of 2666MHz RAM in its thin frame, which can further be expanded to 16GB. The notebook uses a PCIE NVMe 512GB M.2 SSD for storage.

The 15.6-inch, full HD IPS-level panel has a 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time and 100% sRGB coverage. The notebook’s chassis uses a mix of aluminum and magnesium alloys, and the lid is machined from a solid block of aluminum. ASUS says that their meticulous CNC-milling process and the use of high-quality materials allowed the Zephyrus S to meet military-grade durability standards for jolts and vibration.

Just like its bigger brother, the Zephyrus S uses ASUS’ Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) that draws in more air into the chassis when the notebook is in use. Other gaming features like custom RGB lighting is present via Aura Sync.

The new notebook will drop on October 2018 in all ROG stores nationwide. No pricing has been set as of yet.
