The Inbox: ASUS Zenfone 2 or Lenovo Vibe Shot?

It looks like the Php13,000-Php16,000 sweet spot right now for a lot of people looking for gadgets. We’ve received a lot of messages asking us for recommendations for what smartphone they should get for the Php15,000 and below segment. This is the reason why we wrote the post, “5 Superb Smartphones Under Php15,000”. We got a more pointed question though that we’d like to tackle in today’s The Inbox post. Angelo wrote…

“Hi sir. Good pm sorry to disturb you. Badly need suggestions for choosing a new smartphone and im really torn between the lenovo vibe shot and the asus zenfone 2 both phones have amazing specs and priced at 15k.. really hoping for your feedback sir. Thanks!..”

The answer? It depends on what you value more in a smartphone. The ASUS Zenfone 2 brings a vibrant ecosystem of accessories, 4GB of RAM for multi-tasking and gaming, and more internal storage. The Lenovo Vibe Shot, as the name implies, is going to be all about camera capabilities.

Why Get the ASUS Zenfone 2

ASUS Zenfone 2 f

  • Superb device for gaming and multi-tasking thanks to the Intel processor and the ridiculously generous serving of 4GB RAM.
  • Lots of accessories! Interchangeable back covers. ZenPower. Lots of new back covers. Loli Flash!
  • 64GB Internal Storage option. That’s a whole lot of movies and TV shows especially if you expand it further with a microSD card.
  • The final SRP of the Lenovo Vibe Shot in the Philippines is not yet confirmed. It might be higher than Php15,000.

Why Get the Lenovo Vibe Shot

  • Camera. The 16-megapixel primary shooter of the Lenovo Vibe Shot will be awesome for smartphone photography. It also has a very comprehensive Manual Mode.
  • IR sensor of the camera will mean faster snapping of pics!
  • The 8-megapixel front-facing camera will be awesome for selfies!
  • Unique build (it really looks like a camera from the back!)

By the way, check out the hands-on video of the Vibe Shot which we took during the Mobile World Congress below.

So long story short, if your priority is the camera capabilities you may want to WAIT for the Lenovo Vibe Shot before making your decision. We haven’t really tested it yet so we don’t know the final quality of the photos that can come out. Also we don’t know what the final SRP will be. For all we know Lenovo PH will price it at the 18k-20k level.

The Zenfone 2 is definitely a super capable device. It’s a strong alternative to the more expensive flagships given the rip-roaring performance that you get out of it. If your priority will be PERFORMANCE and POWER, the Zenfone 2 is a good pick.

  1. Perhaps it’s important to note din na may heating issues ang snapdragon 615 sa vibe shot. Xperia m4 already suffers from this sadly.

  2. In my opnion, you can never go wrong with Zenfone 2, Qualcom 615 has an issue with overheating, maganda naman din kuha na pictures ni Zenfone 2 pero if camera talaga ang gusto mo may iba pang alternative kay vibe shot (615 is very bad processor), Lumia 1020 or 1520 under 15k na lang ata sila
