Qualcomm is the dominant processor manufacturer this time around

While you’d expect Qualcomm to be the chip provider of choice for most flagships, you probably didn’t expect the chip maker to be the most common provider of processors for most phones in the first half of 2017, right? Well it seems like the company has managed to make a killing in the past few months, as DeviceAtlas shows in their latest smartphone report for Q2 2017.

According to them, the most popular chipset in the world today is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 processor, followed closely by the A7 and A9 Duo by Apple. Now you should take this report with a few grains of salt, because DeviceAtlas did not include a few key countries in their report, including China, the biggest mobile market in the world. The Philippines is also not represented in the report.

But among the countries polled, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 processor is the most prevalent chipset present, thanks to the sales of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy J5, Moto E (2nd Gen), Moto G (3rd Gen), Huawei Y550, Huawei Y635 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note. Apple’s A9 processor comes in second thanks to iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE and iPad (2017) sales, while the A7 chip comes in third because of the iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2 and iPad Mini 3.

According to the report there’s still plenty of manufacturers selling phones with a measly 500MB of RAM, and the most common RAM amount in most countries is still 1GB. There’s a lot of interesting data to be unpacked in the report – you can download it here if you want to see it for yourself.
