The OnePlus 8 Pro is No Longer a Flagship Killer

OnePlus is ready to go against the big boys

OnePlus upped the ante yet again with the OnePlus 8 series. Like previous OnePlus models, both the vanilla and Pro model are decked out with flagship internalsSnapdragon 865, UFS 3.0 storage, and LPDDR5 RAM (LPDDR4X on the vanilla OnePlus 8), stereo speakers, punch-hole displays, and fast 30w Warp Charge wired charging.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is a multimedia monster, as it has one of the best phone displays in the market. The OnePlus 8 Pro’s 6.78-inch curved AMOLED panel has a Quad HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 240hz touch response rate, and a custom MEMC chip for motion-smoothing. For imaging, the OnePlus 8 Pro’s quad rear camera setup consists of two 48-megapixel cameras—IMX 689 for the main camera and IMX586 for the ultra-wide-angle, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, and 5-megapixel color filter. Instead of a pop-up module, the OnePlus 8 Pro settles for a punch-hole that is home to a 16-megapixel selfie snapper.

For the first time in any OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with 30w Warp Charge Wireless charging and 3w reverse wireless charging, on top of 30w wired Warp Charge. You will need to purchase a dedicated Warp Charge Wireless dock to enjoy the OnePlus 8 Pro’s speedy wireless charging speeds though. In addition, the OnePlus 8 Pro is the first OnePlus phone to have an IP68 rating.

On the other hand, the vanilla OnePlus 8 is impressive on its own. While it does not get wireless charging, the OnePlus 8 has an equally great 6.55-inch AMOLED panel with 90hz refresh rate, along with a triple rear camera setup—48-megapixel IMX 586 main camera, 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and 2-megapixel macro camera, and a stunning, Instagram-inspired Interstellar Glow color option.
