Unboxing the Brainwavz HM3 Headphones

Our pick for the best budget headphone of 2011: Brainwavz HM3

Unboxing: Brainwavz HM3 Headphones

When you say “headphones” here in the Philippines chances are the top of mind brands are Beats By Dr. Dre, Skull Candy, Philips, Audio-Technica, AKG, Bose, and probably even “Apple”. The problem with the brands I just mentioned is that they are mostly all expensive. Finding budget friendly cans with good sound quality is actually difficult. Here’s the good news though for everyone. I think we just found the “best-bang-for-your-buck” headphones for 2011: the Brainwavz HM3! They sell for Php2,800 but the product is definitely worth twice more than that. We’ll tell you why when we do the full review next week. For now though we’d like to share the unboxing.

Packaging, Unboxing, and Build

Check out our photos below. Don’t forget to read the captions because that’s where we describe everything in detail!

Nice glossy black box with blue accents and transparent side to show the outer face of the headphones
Here's another shot of the box from the side.
You open the box from the top and you pull-out the headphone which is "trapped" in this weird blue carton. It was actually a bit annoying trying to get the cans free from this, hehe.
By the way Brainwavz included one of the best freebies ever in the box: extra ear pads. Two thumbs up for this!
The HM3 has a retro look to it because of the headband and the retractable metal band connecting it to the cups. The outer faces of the cups are branded with the Brainwavz logo. They look awesome from any angle.
I'll talk more about this in the review but these cans are ridiculously comfortable to wear. I usually can only last around 1-2 hours on any headphone max. For this one I spent almost 5-6 hours until it started getting uncomfortable. Brainwavz did an excellent job with the ear pads on this baby.

Initial Impressions

For our initial testing we used an HTC Desire S as our source connected to an FiiO E11 amplifier.

We’ve been using this already for a week and I can say without a doubt that you’re getting much more than what you’re paying for! You get decent sound stage, good bass, rich mids, and clear highs. It’s not as good as the Php10,000 cans in the market but it can definitely give Php5,000-Php7,000 headphones stiff competition. When it comes to the build I can’t think of any headphone that I’ve ever owned that can even come close when it comes to comfort. If you’re looking for cans that you’ll be wearing for hours then this is simply the best product in the market today for you in this price range.

The Brainwavz HM3 sells for just Php2,800. You can currently buy it from Digital Hub and Beyond the Box stores.
