I’ve been looking forward to this weekend because I finally get the time to unbox and set-up the Focal XS 2.1 Multimedia Sound System for my home “work desk”. I got around to doing it just now and took some initial photos of the unboxing to share with everyone here. By the way, if you want to read the initial feature product article, check out this link. We will also be coming up with a more comprehensive review probably around Wednesday or Thursday.
Before anything else though check out pictures of our cat, Tiffy, showing some love for the speakers!
What’s inside the box?
When you open the box you’ll see a rectangular box inserted like a module on the styro top cover. Inside it you’ll find different adaptors for the iPod dock. Focal included 8 different kinds of adaptors to make sure that whatever your model your iPod is or iPhone you can dock it. After removing the top cover, here’s what I found:
Yep, you read the caption right! 2.2 lbs. each. The speakers are black with anodized aluminum finish coupled to solid metal speaker stands. It reminds me a lot of the MacBooks of Apple. Clearly the industrial design of Cupertino’s top tech company had an influence on the Focal XS. One of the speakers has the dock and controls (power, volume). To connect it other than the dock, there’s a built-in USB DAC and a 3.5mm mini-jack input.
What else is in the box? Of course we can’t miss the subwoofers. The sub weights at a hefty 18.5 lbs.
At the back of the subs you’ll find the I/O. You plug both speakers here, turn it on, and you’re in business!
