We currently have a unit with us and we’re definitely going to take it around in different places in Metro Manila to do speed tests. For now we’d like to share our unboxing and initial impressions!

Cool packaging

Funky right?

Smart should probably win an award for packaging since this is the coolest box we’ve ever seen for a mobile WiFi router, hehe. It comes in some sort of triangular hard box. The Smart LTE brand logo is at the front and product information is at the back. To open, just remove the tape at the bottom and flip up the front.

Tadaaaa~!

So it’s kinda big…

The Smart LTE Pocket WiFi device rests on a foam cushion. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw it was “Wow, this is big!” It could very well be the same size as a Samsung Galaxy Y. Here’s a photo of the Smart LTE Pocket WiFi side-by-side with the Smart Rocket Pocket WiFi (HSPA+) so you guys get a better idea of the size.

To pry it out there’s a blue cloth that you can pull which will push the router upwards.

In terms on what’s actually on the LTE Pocket WiFi, it has a LCD display which shows the status of the connection as well as how many devices are connected to it. On the left you’ll find the microUSB port (for charging), microSD slot, and the rest button. On the right is the sim tray, power button, and WPS.

Easy to use compared to the LTE Dongle

We’ve been testing the Smart LTE Pocket WiFi for a few days now and coming from the original LTE dongle we can definitely say that this is the best LTE experience yet. The original LTE dongle was hard to use. You had to plug it in, open the connection app, connect, and then it drains ridiculous amounts of battery fast. With the Smart LTE Pocket WiFi all you have to do is press “On” and then connect whatever phone, laptop, or tablet you’re using (it can support up to 6 devices at the same time).

Two thumbs up so far!
