We unbox the Veho Muvi K2!
When you talk action cameras, it’s inevitable that GoPro’s line will always be the forefront of the conversation. And why not – the company makes, tough, sturdy action cams that have made them a household name. They’re also pretty expensive, which has prompted several other companies to make action cams with roughly the same featureset, only cheaper. Veho’s Muvi K2 is one such action cam, and at Php 13,995 from Widget City, it’s definitely more affordable than a full blown Hero 3+.
Packaging and contents:
If you’ve seen our Veho Muvi HD NPNG unboxing, you pretty much know what to expect when it comes to the Muvi K2. A black, serious looking box that has a cutout that shows you the K2 inside its rather large waterproof case, and multiple mounting solutions inside.
Speaking of mounting solutions, the Muvi K2 also comes with one that allows you to use the Muvi K2 without the bulky protective case.
Initial Impressions: Has all the basics covered, and then some
It’s not hard to see that the Veho Muvi K2 wants to take on the GoPro Hero 3+, not only in price but also in features. The Muvi K2 has a lot of features that’s on par with the Hero 3+ = WiFi connectivity, mobile app that allows you to see what the camera is seeing, as well as additional features that you didn’t think you needed – 60 FPS shooting at 1080p, and an even faster 120 FPS shooting at 720p.
The front of the K2 has the switches for both the power and WiFi, plus a big red button to start recording. We appreciated the hardware WiFi switch after our experience with the GoPro Hero 3+ (the WiFi would still be on even after you turn off the device, draining the battery).
The top of the device bears the buttons to take photos and take videos (gotta love redundancy) while the right side of the camera bears all the connections like USB, HDMI port and the like. If you haven’t noticed, the K2 doesn’t have any physical controls to change settings – everything that’s related to image quality, FOV and the like will need to be done through your smartphone.
Unlike the GoPro Hero 3+, the waterproof mount of the K2 is freaking massive. It’s obvious that the thing was over-engineered to the max, and for good reason – the Muvi K2 is rated for depths of up to 100m, which is a good 60 meters more than the one in the Hero 3+.
Like all the other action cameras that we used, we’ll be strapping this one to our airsoft helmet and playing soldier in the next few weeks to get you guys good footage. Stand-by till then.
