ViVo Confirms 6GB of RAM, Snapdragon 820 in Upcoming Xplay 5

More RAM than you can shake a stick at

Chinese firm ViVo is an interesting company. Despite not having a big western presence, the company has a flair for innovation. After all, they’re the first ones to stuff a QHD resolution display on a phone before Samsung and LG made it a regular occurrence in their phones.

So it probably comes as no surprise that they’ll be the ones to break through the 4GB RAM barrier first and have announced that their upcoming ViVo Xplay 5 smartphone will come with a whopping 6GB of RAM, along with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820.

And while 6GB sounds excessive, remember that that’s the same thing said about ASUS and the Zenfone 2 when it debuted as the world’s first phone with 4GB of RAM. Nowadays, 4GB of RAM is expected on most flagship devices – just take a look at the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and the LG G5.

  1. I’m a Zenfone 2 owner and from what I’ve leaned, you don’t need more than 3GB in your android. Give it 2-3 years when smartphone is available for windows dual-boot and then that will be the time when ram is needed.

    1. Good insight; I agree with you. To add something: our specs race is allowing more app developers to get away with poorly coded apps. It’s about time the software makers (especially third-party ones) are exposed to the same scrutiny as the hardware developers.
