Vivo’s Growth Takes them to the Top 5 Worldwide

A Rollercoaster Year for the Smartphone Market

2016 was a heck of a year for smartphone sales! Samsung was dealt a humbling blow with the demise of the Note 7, which has once again been resurrected by the way, allowing other smartphone manufacturers to take advantage of the lost confidence in the Korean brand. One such brand that was able to sway part of their market to their side was Vivo.

Vivo has undoubtedly had a stellar 2016. They released two smartphones that would win over the selfie-centric crowd locally and abroad, with the Vivo V5 and Vivo V5 Plus. They have unseated Xiaomi, a long time staple in the top 5 smartphone brands in the world, by doubling their shipments in 2015. According to data from IDC, Vivo has reportedly shipped out 24.7 million smartphones globally during Q4 of 2016; compared to the 12.1 million units shipped in Q4 2015.

IDC also reports that the Chinese brand has had a significant increase in sales at 103% compared to 2015, amounting to 77.3 million smartphones sold in 2016. While most of the units were shipped and sold within China, IDC reports that numbers started trending upwards as the company expanded their reach to Southeast Asia.

We’re pretty sure having two-time NBA League MVP, Steph Curry, as their global ambassador is helping them forward their cause as well.

We’re excited to see what Vivo has in store for us this year, because competition is always a good thing and we’re sure that Vivo is going to be making the push to secure a higher spot on the list.

Congratulations to our friends over at Vivo Philippines!
