We review the 20000mAh power bank!

Powerbanks are essential accessories now, especially if you’re the type of person that’s on the phone a lot. Xiaomi’s one of the more well-known brands that produces power banks, and up until a few weeks ago their biggest capacity power bank was their 16000mAh offering. No more. Today we’ll be reviewing the company’s biggest power bank yet – a 20000mAh monster that’s capable of keeping your phone and several other gadgets topped up with juice.

A new design that may not endear long time fans

One of the reasons that Xiaomi’s power bank offerings have been a hit with consumers is their elegant, metal casings and designs that belie their affordable nature. Well, Xiaomi’s done away with that for their biggest ever power bank – instead of aluminum, the Chinese company has gone with lightweight plastic instead. The externals of the 20000mAh power bank sport embossed dots to aid with grip when you’re handling the thing.

With 20000mAh of juice, this particular power bank can charge several phones with enough left over for other devices. The Mi Power Bank can do fast charging of devices (output of 2A) though because of its sheer size it takes quite a while for it to be fully charged – around 8 hours give or take an hour or two. That may be excessive, but you can always just plug it in at the end of the day and take it out again the next day before you go to work – we doubt that you’ll be able to completely drain this power bank in one day.

Obviously, the 20000mAh capacity isn’t the real-life capacity of this power bank. Several factors which include heat, physics and energy transfer all contribute to the reduced, real rating of power banks (we already talked about that here) but overall the 20000mAh offering of Xiaomi is pretty efficient. We managed to record a real rating of 17687mAh when we charged the power bank, and extracted 13035mAh worth of juice, which comes out to around 73.70% efficiency. Not bad.

Verdict: a power bank that’s perfect for long trips, but is sadly not offered here

Xiaomi’s 20000mAh Mi Power Bank is the perfect power bank for constant travellers and for people going on long trips. The longer charge time is a bummer, but it’s the price that you pay for longevity. Speaking of price, this particular power bank is sadly not offered here in the PH by Xiaomi, but can be sourced through other means if you look hard enough. At RMB 149 (Php 1105) it’s not that expensive, and should be in your travelling case the next time you hit the road for extended periods of time.
