Xiaomi Announces Mi Band 5 with Bigger AMOLED Display and Magnetic Charging

Xiaomi’s top-selling wearable gets upgrades

Being one of the best budget fitness trackers in the market, Xiaomi announced the next generation Mi Band with the Mi Band 5. One of its biggest upgrades is the AMOLED display, which is now 1.1-inches. Aside from the usual watch faces, the Mi Band 5 can be customized with animated watch faces and thematic ones that include Neon Genesis Evangelion, Case Closed, Hatsune Miku, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

While you get the same set of features, the Mi Band 5’s heart rate sensor can now detect abnormalities and is 50% more accurate than the sensor used on the Mi Band 4. You get 11 professional modes, with the ability to detect different swimming styles and a PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) score that gives you insights on the impact of your workout.

For the first time in the Mi Band series, you get a magnetic charging pin that does away with the need of removing the module from the band every time you need to charge it. Speaking of battery life, the Mi Band 5 is rated for up to 14 days. Other features include an optional NFC chip and support for voice assistant—though we don’t know how will the latter work outside of China.

The Mi Band 5 is priced at CNY 189(~Php 1.4k) for the regular model and CNY 229(~Php 1.7k) for the one with NFC. Both versions will be available in China on June 18.
