Xiaomi Announces Partnership with Samsung for First 64-Megapixel Phone

Both are also working on a 108-megapixel phone as well

Xiaomi has confirmed in an event today that it is partnering with Samsung for the first phone with a 64-megapixel camera. Xiaomi confirmed that they will be using Samsung’s ISOCELL GW1 sensor—a 64-megapixel, 1/1.7-inch, 0.8um sensor that is 38% bigger than the 48-megapixel sensor used in Xiaomi’s phones.

The sensor has a 9248 x 6936 resolution and can print a huge 244cm x 326cm poster. With ISOCELL Plus technology, the ISOCELL GW1 has 15% better light sensitivity and supports 0.8um and smaller pixels without any loss in image quality. This works together with Smart ISO and Dual Conversion Gain (DCG), where the sensor intelligently adjusts the ISO based on ambient light. There’s also Hybrid 3D HDR that will help provide a higher dynamic range and richer hues.

To close the announcement, Xiaomi revealed that they are working with Samsung for the first 108-megapixel phone in the future.

The Redmi phone to sport a 64-megapixel sensor is expected to launch by Q4 2019.
