Xiaomi Officially Launches Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite

Xiaomi’s newest Android One phones are now official!

We’re on the ground in Madrid, Spain where Xiaomi has officially unveiled their newest Android phones. While the company seemingly announces a new budget device nearly week, the two phones the company launched today are special since they both run stock Android out of the box.

Yes, the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite have all the hallmarks of Xiaomi’s killer mid-range phones —good design, excellent hardware and killer price—without MIUI, their proprietary Android overlay. In fact, the two phones are part of the Android One program, which pretty much guarantees they both will be getting at least 2 year’s worth of software updates. Google also promised that the Mi A2 will be the first to get Android P later this year.

The Mi A2 sports a 6-inch Full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio that’s notch-free, as well as a Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with either 4GB/6GB of RAM and either 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.

Xiaomi has also thrown in better cameras in the Mi A2—namely a 12-megapixel f/1.75 and 20-megapixel f/1.75 camera. There’s also machine learning on mode for better portrait shots and better edge detection for bokeh effects, as well as better foreground and background separation when shooting multiple people in one shot.

The front camera also gets AI smarts, as well as a 4500K soft selfie light for better self-shots in low-lighting. Xiaomi’s AI-powered semantic segmentation allows for better bokeh when shooting selfies. The software also applies the necessary filters to selfies automatically for better images.

Xiaomi is pricing the Mi A2 at Php 14,990  for the 4GB/64GB model and Php 17,490 for the 6GB/128GB model.

The Mi A2 Lite, on the other hand, has a 5.84-inch Full HD+, 19:9 notched-screen, along with an older Snapdragon 625 chipset, and will come in 3GB/4GB RAM configuration and 32GB/64GB storage configuration.

Xiaomi is pricing the Mi A2 Lite at Php 9,990 for the 3GB/32GB model, while the 4GB/64GB is priced at Php 11,990.

The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite start shipping in France on July 27, in Italy on August 8, Spain on August 10. While the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will be made available in the Philippines, there’s no solid date when the phone will be arriving in the Philippines.
