Xiaomi Rolls Out MiUI 9 Global Beta to Supported Phones

Upgrading select Xiaomi phones to Android Nougat

After launching MiUI 9 last July 26, owners of select Xiaomi smartphones finally get their hands on the Global Beta of MiUI today. Based on Android Nougat (7.0), MiUI 9 will bring in some new features which include: Multi-window support, Quick-reply from notifications, Optimised dose mode, RAM optimization, Improved data saver, Always-on VPN, Call screening feature, Dual space feature, and Dual apps. 

Here are the following Xiaomi devices eligible for the upgrade:

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
  • Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime
  • Xiaomi Redmi 3
  • Xiaomi Redmi 3S
  • Xiaomi Redmi 3A
  • Xiaomi Mi 4s
  • Xiaomi Mi 4c
  • Xiaomi Mi 4i.
  • Xiaomi Mi5
  • Xiaomi Mi Max
  • Xiaomi Mi Note
  • Xiaomi Mi Pad 2
  • Xiaomi Mi 6
  • Xiaomi Mi Max Prime
  • Xiaomi Mi Max 2
  • Xiaomi Mi MIX
  • Xiaomi Redmi 4X
  • Xiaomi Mi Note 2
  • Xiaomi Redmi 4A
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 2
  • Xiaomi Mi 2S

While some would say that MiUI 9 has nothing groundbreaking, what makes this update matter is Xiaomi’s efforts to upgrade some of its handsets with Android Nougat (and possibly Android Oreo). We do think that Xiaomi is setting an example to other brands in giving their handsets the Android update they deserve.

To upgrade, users will need to flash the ROM since it will not be offered Over the Air (OTA). You can download the ROMS here.
