ZTE Officially Announces Dual-screen Axon M

It has two displays and a hard to ignore hinge in the middle

ZTE hs officially unveiled their newest and boldest phone to date. The Axon M is the first phone from the company to use dual screens – one in the front, one in the back – that fold together to give you more space when you need it. The easiest way to think of it is like a screen sandwich, though one side is a little thicker compared to the other to accommodate all the required bits that make it, well, a phone.

You can use the screens together, which combines the two 5.2-inch, full HD panels into one, albeit with an unsightly hinge down the middle. You can have one half work independently from the other, so you can text and watch videos at the same time. You can also play games with the controls in one half and the actual game on the other. There’s a lot of stuff you can do with the Axon M, and ZTE hopes that third party devs will take advantage of their new, funky display to enable new experiences.

Inside the Axon M are unimpressive internals though – last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM as well as a 20-megapixel rear camera. There’s no selfie camera, by the way – if you want to take a selfie, you’ll have to use the rear display that’s mated on the rear display. Both displays are powered by a dinky 3,180mAh battery, which may be enough for this particular phone.

ZTE will be making the Axon M in the US via AT&T and DoCoMo in Japan, and have not announced any plans to sell it in other countries yet.
