If you haven’t guessed by the sheer amount of people walking around with their faces glued to their screens the past weekend, Pokemon Go has officially arrived in the PH. And much like every other country where the game has been launched, Pinoy Pokemon Trainers are learning the hard way just how taxing the augmented reality game is on their phone’s battery.
It’s not surprising then that regions where the game has launched has seen a massive spike in sales of extra battery packs, AKA powerbanks. In the US alone, sales of powerbanks have gone up 101% on a year-over-year basis from July 10 to July 23.
We expect the same thing to happen in the PH as more and more trainers start on their quest to be the very best. While Pokemon Go may not use a lot of data, it absolutely destroys a phone’s battery since it utilizes both the screen and the GPS of your phone (as well as your data connection) to work. It’d be best to buy powerbanks now while you can, before hordes of players start realizing that the battery in their phone isn’t good enough to keep them hunting the entire day.
