Coming next year
While Rovio’s Angry Birds franchise has seemingly fallen off the map, it still holds the distinction of being the first-ever mobile game that has been adapted to the silver screen. Sony has officially taken the wraps off of the first trailer for the movie, showing off the slightly redesigned characters of the game and the premise of the movie.
While the directors of the movie are seemingly unknowns but the movie’s writer, Jon Vitti, is an industry veteran, having written the screenplay for The Simpsons Movie and is a regular writer on King of the Hill and The Office. Big name actors are attached to the movie as well, including Jason Seikis, Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Peter Dinklage.
It’s not a stretch to say that Rovio’s banking on the success of the movie to re-invigorate their franchise – while the Angry Birds games were widely popular a few years ago, their popularity has waned over the years, and their follow-up game, Angry Birds 2, hasn’t really taken off like the original. Anyway, take a look at the trailer above and let us know what you think in the comments below.
