Facebook Lite Now Available for Download in PH

A version of Facebook made for 2G networks

Around a month ago Facebook announced that it was coming out with a lightweight version of its app aimed at users who live in countries that have slow and unreliable internet connections, which make using the full-fledged app slow, terrible torture. Facebook Lite, as the app is called, is available for download for users in both the Philippines and India,  and comes in at a relatively tiny 430KB.

A lot of complicated visual elements are stripped from the app to make it load faster, as well as superfluous features. Rest assured though that you’re still getting the core Facebook experience, and the company promises that it’ll add video capability at a later date. Even if you have good internet connection and a rather beefy phone, you might want to still download the app if you’re on a volume-based data plan, as it’ll obviously consume less data than the full-fledged app.

You can download Facebook Lite in the Play store, here.

  1. Will check what it can do before I’ll install it. For example, my Facebook App does not allow photos in comments, so I go the the phone’s browser to do that.

    1. A review says that it doesn’t have all the fb bells & whistles and a screen grab shows a limited fb screen, links are shown only as URLs for example. Great for slow areas. Will keep mine.
