Fight Of The Gods Managed To Get Steam Blocked In Malaysia

It was labeled as being blasphemous

Last night Steam was blocked for around 3 hours in Malaysia, exasperating millions of Malaysian PC gamers who just wanted to play their games on the digital distribution platform. At first, people were confused as to the reason for the block, but as the situation became clearer, it seemed that the block was a response to a very controversial fighting game dubbed Fight of Gods.

In Fight of Gods, players get to duke it out with opponents using actual gods like Zeus, Odin, Buddha and yes, even the son of the lord himself, Jesus Christ.

Get it?

The game, made by Taiwan developer Digital Crafter, with UK publisher PQube, has not seen wide release, and is currently listed under Early Access in Steam. And if Digital Crafter was looking to ruffle undies with the game’s premise, they’ve succeeded at least in Malaysia, as it has been the target of condemnation and criticism by multiple religious leaders in the country, which prompted the government to temporarily block the game and its distribution network Steam in the country.

Access to Steam was returned 3 hours later after the company removed the offending game for purchase for Malaysian users, but some users still complained that ISPs were still blocking the distribution platform.
