A Handful of Games to Get Excited About

Back in the day, the only game you could play on your mobile device was Snake and we’ve sure come a long way from that. While you still have the enjoyable casual games that are designed to whittle away at the time you have to kill stuck in traffic, you’ve got intense battle royale games and MOBA’s that have since then burst onto the eSports scene as well. We sure have come a long way from the standalone Brick Games of yesteryear, haven’t we?

E3, or Electronic Entertainment Expo, is at its tail-end for this year’s installment and while the focus might be on the big triple-A titles on PC or your favorite consoles,  mobile gaming got some love too. Here’s a round-up of our favorite ones announced at E3 2018.

Command and Conquer: Rivals

Being a #TitoOfManila, I can still remember sneakily installing the very first C&C games onto the computers at school, so we could get in a quick game during Computer Class. It was one of the first RTS games that really made an impact but its been quite awhile since Electronics Arts have dipped into the franchise. Thankfully, they’re reviving the classic RTS and bringing it to mobile devices. Command and Conquer: Rivals brings is more of an area control game that has just enough of what we loved about the series to make it both a good nostalgia kick and something new for today’s mobile gaming crowd.

No announcement as to when it will exactly be available but you can pre-register on the Google Play Store to get notified when it’s ready for download.

Elder Scrolls Blades

Bethesda jumped into the world of mobile games with Fallout Shelter awhile back and while we did enjoy micro-managing our own vault, it did get stale pretty quickly. We don’t think that’s going to happen with the title they announced at E3 this year — Elder Scrolls Blades. It’s a First-Person RPG that the company says will have “console quality graphics” and if what they showed on screen is definitely what they’re going to deliver then consider this a day one purchase for us when it does become available. We’re guessing this is where gaming phones, such as the recently announced Asus ROG Phone, will shine.

Alternatively, there’s also Elder Scrolls Legends if you like strategic card battles. Well done, Bethesda.

Gears of War Pop!

Microsoft gave us a bit of a fake out before revealing Gears of War 5 by introducing their new mobile game — Gears of War Pop! Now, from what we can tell from all the info we’ve gleaned on the web, it’s essentially going to have all the awesome Gears of War gameplay but they’ve made it cuter with Funko Pop version of Marcus Fenix and his crew taking on the Locust threat. If you’re a fan of the Gears series, this is something you should be looking out for.

Gears of War Pop! hasn’t been given a specific release date either but they did say it will be available sometime next year.

So that’s pretty much it for the mobile games we’re excited to try out in the future and will definitely keep an eye out on the iOS and Google Play Store. Did we miss anything? Are you psyched to play any of these games? Let us know in the comment section!
