Helping Save Your Precious Data Allotment

We all love browsing our social media feeds at lull points during the day or to help us get through the epic traffic in the Metro, but if you’re not connected to the many free WiFi hotspots available around town you might see you precious data allowance go down the drain rather quickly. Google understands that having data all the time is important, not just for entertainment purposes but for those times where you need to get precious information. This is why the recently launched their newest app, Datally, that helps you understand where your precious MBs and GBs are going and help you control access.

Datally has four features to help you save and take control of your data allocation, so you can make the most of your data allotment.

Testers Discuss their Experience with Datally at the launch

Data Saver

We all have apps running in the background, which allows them to update content but the relevance of each app varies from person to person. Datally’s Data Saver lets you prioritize apps, controlling what can and cannot run in the background. Google mentioned that people who have been using the app have been able to save 30% of their mobile data, which is pretty impressive.

Data Saver Bubble

Data Saver is great, but to help you keep tabs on your usage further the Data Saver Bubble is there to notify you if your consumption on certain apps has gotten a little out of control. When you launch an app, the Data Saver Bubble will show you your current of usage and will allow you to restrict data access if you feel like you’ve spent a little too much of your allotment playing online games for example.

Personalized Alerts

If you’re the type to just install the app and let it do the work for you then you’ll be glad to know that Datally will also alert you to an app’s usage. Yes, your phones have a built-in alert if you’re over a certain amount of consumption, but the ability to do this on an app-to-app basis is awesome. Also, if you’re a bit of a number cruncher, Datally can also help you keep track of your usage on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

WiFi Finder

The best way to save on mobile data is, of course, getting to one of the available WiFi networks in the Metro. Datally can help you find WiFi spots and, best of all, introduces a rating system in case you need to download something faster or need to do a quick video call with loved ones overseas. Maybe that’ll encourage establishments to get better connections too?

We’ve just installed Datally on our daily driver so, hopefully, we’ll see awesome results in terms of our data usage. We’ll try to give you a review of this app if that’s something you’d be interested in but suggest you give it a go yourselves as well. The app is only 6MB so it doesn’t take a lot of space plus its free. Let us know what you experience with the app is in the comment section below.
