We spend a ton of time on Facebook everyday. It might seem harmless at first but it left unchecked and uncontrolled, it can make you misinformed, lazy, and distracted. This coming 2017 we challenge you to take control of your Facebook News Feed and turn it into a source of inspiration and motivation so that you can actually achieve your goals. How to do this? 3 easy steps.
STEP 1: UNFOLLOW UNHEALTHY FRIENDS, FAKE NEWS PAGES, AND HECK EVEN LEGIT NEWS PAGES
You don’t need to read everything. You don’t need to feel sad everyday with all the negativity online. You don’t need all the fake news misleading you. Solution? Unfollow people, pages, and brands that don’t offer you any value. Stop feeding your brain with trash.
Click the Menu icon on your smartphone. Scroll down to Settings and go to News Feed Preferences.
Go to Unfollow Pages/People and unfollow as many people and pages that you want. This is a very important step in claiming back your News Feed. Spend at least an hour or two pruning, cleansing, and purifying it from trash.
STEP 2: FOLLOW AND SET IMPORTANT PAGES THAT INSPIRE YOU TO “SEE FIRST”
Let’s say your goal for 2017 is to lose weight. Follow pages that give inspiration and motivation like Men’s Health, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, or even your friends who are on their own personal weight loss journey. Set them all to “SEE FIRST” so that each time they post, they appear at the top of your feed.
This is equally important as pruning because this step dictates what you feed your brain and heart when you open your Facebook page. Make sure you feed it good stuff. Just like when you’re picking what you eat, spend effort and time in picking what content you consume.
STEP 3: USE FACEBOOK AGAIN AND KEEP PRUNING AND ADDING TO PRIORITIES AS THE MONTHS GO BY
Now that you’ve cleaned your News Feed and you’ve prioritized pages that give inspiration and motivation, you’re all set to actually maximise it so that it helps you achieve your goals for 2017. Just make sure to keep refining it as the months go by so that you don’t fall back into the trap of distraction and misinformation.
That’s it!
