That didn’t take long
When Instagram launched IGTV last year, one of its unique selling propositions is that it wants to make vertical videos mainstream. While it should make the platform stand out, not a lot of people use IGTV to upload vertical videos.
As a response, Instagram decided to update IGTV to have support for landscape videos.
In many ways, opening IGTV to more than just vertical videos is similar to when we opened Instagram to more than just square photos in 2015. It enabled creativity to flourish and engagement to rise – and we believe the same will happen again with IGTV.
In its statement, Instagram adds that the decision to include support landscape videos is a result of feedback obtained from creators and viewers. Instagram will continue supporting vertical videos, as they believe that the format is perfect for those who want to be up close and personal with their audience.
With this development, this should encourage Instagram to monetize it in order for brands to utilize IGTV for sponsored content.
