Instagram Gets a Redesign; Puts the Focus on Your Photos

Instagram New Icons

The camera icon that has been on the home sccreen of most of our devices has now been changed. Instagram started to roll out the redesign for their app recently and have decided to bid adieu to the familiar rainbow clad camera for rather eye-catching hues of purple and orange coupled with minimalistic line art. There’s still a familiarity there and Instagram did say the color choice plus the art on the icon itself was to give a nod to its predecessor, but you seriously can’t miss the app on your home screen now. The redesign also extends to Instagram’s accompanying apps, such as: Layouts, Boomerang, and Hyperlapse.

One big change to Instagram is in its UI, which really highlights the photos you’ve taken and those of which you’ve chosen to follow. The UI is now black and white, which gives snaps a certain pop when you browse through your feed or edit your own photos for sharing. The controls in itself to manipulate and add filters are still the same, so you don’t have to worry about a transition period in that sense.

As of writing this, we have updated our app on our trusty daily driver and the Instagram app icon has changed, but the accompanying app icons and the UI remained the same. We’re guessing Instagram should be rolling out more updates on Google Play pretty soon.
