Tomb Raider Gets a Reboot on the Big Screen 

The Tomb Raider trailer was released today and those who played the reboot will find a lot of scenes familiar.  Lara Croft, the daring adventurer goes to an island off the coast of Japan to find answers to her father’s mysterious disappearance.  She tackles an organization known as Trinity as she searches for a mythical tomb.  Much like the video game, we can expect the movie to be action packed.  Unlike Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft, however, this one portrayed by Alicia Vikander is only starting her adventure.  While she’s still certainly bad ass, she’s not quite as trained as a fighter.  At least not yet.  What makes that awesome is that the audience will be able to witness her character development.

Tomb Raider is directed by Roar Uthang and written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (also the writer of Captain Marvel).  Aside from Oscar Winner Alicia Vikander, the other stars are Dominic West from 300 and The Wire and Walton Goggins from Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.

There’s always the risk that reboots won’t be as liked or accepted as the original.  Even the first 2 Tomb Raider movies had mixed reviews.  We have to wait until March next year to see what we think of this new Tomb Raider.
