Nintendo Unveils their New Console the Switch

On the couch or On the Go

Rumors for the next console by Japanese gaming company, Nintendo, have been swirling the interwebs for quite awhile now. What was initially dubbed as the NX has officially been revealed in the a video — that you can watch above — as the Switch and we’re pretty psyched about it.

The Switch is essentially a console that you can take with you when you’re out and about via a tablet. When you get home, though, you can drop down the entire system on to the Nintendo Switch Dock to game on your TV, sliding off the Joy-Con controller and onto a sort of place holder that has better ergonomics to mimic more traditional controllers out in the market. From that video that was released, we can also see that you can actually game with a buddy using either side of the controller, but we’re guessing that will be limited to simpler titles that we’re guessing would be somewhere along the lines of Mario Kart — and we’re totally cool about that.

In the video reveal, we can also see games, like: The New Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild, an NBA Game — we’re not entirely sure if its 2K, something from EA, or something new altogether, and Skyrim. Yes, Skyrim. You can take Skyrim with you as you traverse Metro Manila traffic!

Several gaming publishers and developers have already pledged their support for Nintendo’s new console, which is a veritable list of who’s who in the gaming industry, namely: Bethesda (Duh! Skyrim nga eh!), Ubisoft, Konami, Activision, Telltale Games, Electronic Arts, and Square Enix. You can check out the full list by clicking on the link to the Nintendo News Room.

One has to wonder though, will Nintendo be slowly killing off the Nintendo 3DS in favor of the Switch because of its handheld capabilities? Only time will tell. For now, we will eagerly anticipate more news regarding the Nintendo Switch that is set to be released in March of 2017. Again, we’re completely psyched about this and can’t wait to try it out.
