Our 5 Favorite Rurouni Kenshin Anime Moments

Ungeek has been reporting regularly about the new arc of Rurouni Kenshin that’s set to drop this coming September. It will be officially called “Rurouni Kenshin – Hokkaido Arc” and as the name implies will take place in Hokkaido. It will also involve a criminal named Ashitarou. As big Kenshin fans ourselves (we grew up watching him on Studio 23, lol), we rounded up some of our favorite moments to celebrate the return of Battousai the Slasher.

When Hiko Seijuro Saved the Day

This is my personal all-time favorite anime moment. Yahiko was about to be crushed by Fuji and he was saved at the last second by Kenshin’s master, Hiko Seijuro. It was an epic battle with Fuji going down to Seijuro’s favorite finisher, Kuzu Ryu Zen. The last scene of Fuji desperately reaching out towards the sun was also a nice way to end the scene.

When Kenshin Faced Off with Saito

Of all the fights in the anime featuring Kenshin, this was my absolute favorite. Saito brought out Battousai out of Kenshin and the exchange of moves, the thrilling soundtrack, and the transformation of Kenshin were all on point and made the hairs stand up my forearm. It was also great to see Kenshin pushed to his limits especially when Saito still fought on (and nearly won) with a broken blade and being crafty with his belt.

Kenshin’s Crazy Combo Attack Against Shishio

The duel between Shishio and Kenshin was a bit too long and dragging IMO. The saving grace for it was when Kenshin finally was able to fight back and launched his offensive with a long combo featuring almost all the moves of Hiten Mitsurugi. The finish of Kenshin holding on to the bandage of Shishio before launching a Kuzu Ryu Zen was simply bad ass.

Aoshi’s Final Attack Against Kenshin

Shinamori Aoshi was my favorite character next to Seijuro. He was brooding, skilled, and the change of heart near the end made him just 10x cooler. His duel with Kenshin in the library was an awesome fight scene with both of them pushing each other to their limits. The final clash between his finisher, the Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren and Kenshin’s Amakakeru Ry? no Hirameki was mind-blowing to watch back then!

When Kenshin Learned his “Final Attack

And last, but definitely not the least, is when Kenshin learned the Amakakeru Ry? no Hirameki during his training with Hiko Seijuro. It was the most “Matrix-like” moment of the anime with Hiko’s run towards Kenshin on slow motion 100x (haha). Seriously though, it was emotionally thrilling to see Kenshin almost break but then rebound upon realizing what he was missing before he countered the Kuzu Ryu Zen with the Amakakeru Ry? no Hirameki.

And those are our favorite moments of the Kenshin anime series. How about you guys? Let us know what your favorite scenes were in the comments section below!

Can’t wait for the new manga to drop!
