Pokemon Duel is Now Available for Android and iOS

Finally! A Pokemon game for mobile with actual Pokemon Battles!

Pokemon Go was a huge success for the Pokemon Company and Niantic Labs; their revenues have reported to have reached $800 million. While the game allowed for trainers to wander around their local haunts to catch the cute pocket monsters, one thing that was sorely missing from the app was the ability to battle other trainers; a feature that the company says they’ve been working on in incoming patches. If you’ve been hankering for Pokemon battles on your mobile device, this new game released by The Pokemon Company may just fill that void. Well, sort of.

Ladies and Gents, here is the trailer for Pokemon Duel.

Pokemon Duel is strategy board game and plays out more like X-COM, rather than the turn-based combat that we’ve come to know and love from the series of games on Nintendo consoles. Like the games on the 3DS, and previous generations of Nintendo’s handhelds, you build a roster of 6 Pokemon to take on your duels. The roster is called a deck and your Pokemon are represented as Amiibo-like figures on the battlefield with discs on the bottom to tell you their movement values and other stats; similar to Heroclix.

The duels don’t actually play out like what we’re used to seeing either. While your Pokemon do have to duke it out, the goal of the game is to get to your opponents goal by careful planning your route to victory. You can play Pokemon Duel online via their League Matches or practice your strategies versus the app’s AI.

Pokemon Duel is free to download but, as expected, there will be in-app purchases.
