A first for the telco company

It’s official: after being teased a few days ago, Smart announced that it has tapped KDrama actor Hyun Bin—best known for his role as Captain Ri Jeong Hyeok in Crash Landing on You—as its endorser for its “Simple. Smart Ako” campaign. This is the first time that Smart tapped a KDrama superstar to be the brand’s face as it continues to improve its services for its customers. 

“The ‘Hyun Bin Phenomenon’ is pretty much due to digital technology –  Filipinos have developed the craze because they are able to stream his shows, hear the buzz about him online, share their excitement with their friends, and even get to interact with him through social media,” Smart Head of Consumer Wireless Business Jane Basas said. “This makes him a perfect ambassador for Smart as we empower Filipinos with technological solutions made easy so they can enrich their daily lives and pursue their passions.”

As for the name of the campaign,  Smart President and CEO Al Panlilio explained that it is their way of summing up Smart’s approach “all this time to make amazing technology available, and more importantly, simple for every Filipino.”

Aside from its ongoing expansion of 4G networks nationwide, Smart offers a variety of data packages under its Giga Promos. Giga video is made for those who use their data allocation for video streaming, while Giga Stories is for those who are heavy on social media. There’s also Giga Games for gamers, Giga Music for podcasts and music streaming, and Giga Work for productivity apps.

Aside from the endorsement reveal, Smart teased that they are working on bringing the KDrama Star to the Philippines as soon as travel restrictions are lifted, along with Hyun Bin merchandise for Smart customers.
