They say that life imitates art, and with Pokémon Go as an augmented reality (AR) game, it was bound to happen sooner than later.

According to Sun Star Bacolod, three minors playing Pokémon Go were victimized by motorcycle-riding men who snatched their smartphones. “Ash, Misty and Brock” finally encounter “Team Rocket” in real life.

Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr., head of Police Station 2, said the incident happened on August 12, while the three boys were walking near a church along B.S. Aquino Drive to “hunt for Pokemons.”

Villarias added that this case was the first Pokémon Go-related incident reported in his jurisdiction. He noted that they already have a lead on the identities of the culprits.

The Chief Inspector advised Pokémon trainers to avoid playing in dimly-lit areas to avoid being targeted by unscrupulous elements.
