Top Trailers from San Diego Comic Con 2017

These Trailers Are Lit. Who’s Psyched?!

San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) has been a mecca for geeks ’round the world for many years now and has become a venue to show off superhero movie trailers, teasers, and all things to hype up an upcoming film or TV series. You’ve no doubt been bombarded with all sorts of trailers by your Facebook or YouTube feed, but here are our personal favorites to come out of SDCC 2017 so far.

Justice League

DC has had a bad batting average when it comes to their movies and, thankfully, that all started to take a turn for the better. Dawn of Justice was a little hit or miss with audiences, but it did build the hype for the eventual superhero team up of DC’s top IP’s; which Gal Gadot pushed over with the success of the Wonder Woman movie. We’ve gotten glimpses of the Justice League movie before, but this has got to be our best yet. No spoilers, but it’s awesome. And, yes, Gal Gadot is still as distractingly beautiful as ever.

Justice League is set to hit theaters on November 16 and we can’t wait!

Thor: Ragnarok

Not to be out done. Marvel also released the trailer for one of their upcoming movies, Thor: Ragnarok. In this movie featuring the Asgardian god of thunder, Mjolnir is destroyed when the goddess of death, Hela, invades Asgard. Looking to prevent Ragnarok, Thor bands together a team, which includes: The Hulk, Loki, and Valkyrie. Honestly, we’re not all that familiar with the ins and outs of this particular Marvel character, but we’re still hyped!

Thor: Ragnarok is set to show in cinemas in October.

Pacific Rim 2

Most of the team at Unbox grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, giving us a healthy dose of cartoons featuring super-powered meccas, like: Voltes V, Mazinger Z, and Voltron. The first installation of Pacific Rim brought back a ton of childhood feels, and we have yet to meet someone from our generation that didn’t like the movie. The trailer for Pacific Rim 2 didn’t show a lot of action, but we definitely can’t wait to see all the new Jaegers take on Kaiju baddies. John Boyega, who you may know as Finn in the latest Star Wars movie, also joins the cast of the big robot beat ’em up.

The release date for Pacific Rim 2 has been set on February 22, 2018.

Ready Player One

If you’re gamer and haven’t read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline yet… Stop what you’re doing, head to a bookstore (or download the audio book), and get to reading this awesome book. If you can’t tell, Ready Player One is one of my favorite books to come out recently, and by recently I mean it was initially published in 2011. We’ve been hearing about a movie adaptation of this book for awhile now, but we completely lost it when we heard that Steven Spielberg was taking the reins on this one. Yes, I am completely geeking out. Watch the trailer. Read the book.

Ready Player One will be coming to a cinema near you on March 30, 2018.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman was one of our favorite movies from 2015. The movie about the British Secret Service was a good mix of the old school, suave James Bond we used to know and the more rough and tumble James Bond starring Daniel Craig with an added touch of today’s humor. It was sophisticated when it needed to be, brash when it had to be, and downright funny to break up all the action on screen. It should come to no surprise that its second installation makes the list of the top trailers to come from SDCC and we’re rather happy to see that Colin Firth’s character is back sans his left eye though.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be released on September 21.

The Defenders

On to the smaller screen…

Netflix hit the nail on the head when they brought us their take on the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, Daredevil. Soon after, they released a few other original shows featuring The Defenders, namely: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Iron Fist; some received better than others. It was pretty clear that Netflix was going to band these IPs together and make The Defenders a reality, but that didn’t stop the hype train.

The Defenders will be available on Netflix starting August 18.

The Gifted

The Gifted is another TV series from Marvel and is set in a world where the X-Men or the Brotherhood no longer exist; at least that’s what the trailer and a couple of articles we’ve read are saying. This TV series features a few character you may already know, even if you just watched the movies, as characters like: Thunderbird and Blink were in the Days of Future Past. Fox is responsible for bringing this series to life, which has us a little bit worried, but we’re willing to give it a shot.

The Gifted airs on October 2 and we really hope it’s good.

Star Trek: Discovery

Admittedly, I am more into Star Wars than I am into Star Trek, but a new series to geek out on is always welcome. Netflix has been on a roll securing licenses for big IPs and we can’t say we’re surprised that they bagged one Star Trek to add to their already stellar lineup of shows. As far as the plot goes, it seems like the Federation is going up against the Romulan Empire in this one and the Enterprise doesn’t seem to come into play at all; no biggie since there have been extremely successful Star Trek series without mention of the iconic ship.

Netflix is teaming up with CBS on this one, so it will be slightly delayed when it comes to watching it on the app. We should be able to watch the show starting September 25 though.

Stanger Things Season 2

Last, but certainly not the least on this list, is the trailer for the second season of Stranger Things. Again, if you haven’t seen the first season of this show at all, stop what you’re doing and binge watch it while it’s still the weekend. In Season 2, the cast of kids return but so are all the creepy creatures from the Upside Down.

The second season of Stranger Things premiers on October 27, 2018.

That’s pretty much it for our favorite trailers to come out of San Diego Comic-Con 2017. Feel free to add any trailers we may have missed in the comment section below and let us know what you’re looking forward to watching.
