Why You  Should Get Psyched for The Witcher on Netflix

An Early Christmas Present from Netflix

If your friends are anything like ours, your feed would have been no doubt flooded with photos of Henry Cavill here in Manila to promote The Witcher on Netflix.

While there’s no doubt that there’s a lot of excitement about the man who plays Superman in the DC Cinematic Universe and who first saw in movies like The Count of Monte Cristo, we are completely psyched about his latest project on Netflix and here are a couple of reasons why you should be too.

Pulling from the Original Source Material and the Game

While a lot of people, myself included, may know of The Witcher franchise from video games, the original source material is actually a series of fantasy novels and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski. In the press con that we were able to attend here in Manila, Showrunner — Lauren Schmidt Hissrich — mentioned that they had pulled elements from the books and short stories that Sapkowski wrote plus references to the games by developer CD Projekt as well.

So whether you’re a fan of the books or the games, you should feel right at home in The Continent.

Speaking of Lauren Schmidt Hissrich — SHE IS A BOSS!

I know a lot of people are usually fawning over Henry Cavill — and, honestly, I don’t blame anyone for doing so — but the Netflix series was placed in very capable hands from the get-go.

Lauren’s credits include popular Netflix Originals like Daredevil, The Defenders, and The Umbrella Academy which were kickass shows that did incredibly well on the platform. Seeing as I and a lot of people enjoyed those shows, we can only expect big things out of this series as well.

Henry Cavill Fought for this Role

One revelation that we got from attending the press con for #TheWitcherInManila was that Henry Cavill is a big-time PC gamer and he was a big fan of The Witcher series.

So much so that when he learned that Netflix was producing the show, he pestered his agents to get him the audition. He actually called them every day to make sure they were doing everything possible so he could get his foot in the door and into Geralt’s boots.

It looks like the incessant nagging paid off and you could really see his passion for this project by the way he was talking about his experience on set.

Cavill is a spectacular actor and you could feel his satisfaction with being able to land this role and the work that he, Lauren, and the rest of cast and crew have done to bring this to audiences across the globe. You didn’t need to have a Witcher’s heightened senses to see that they were beaming with pride with what they had accomplished, which made me even more excited to see the fruits of their labor and you should be psyched to see it as well.

The Witcher will be available via Netflix on December 20 so it looks like we’re getting one Christmas gift a few days early this year.
