Smart has officially launched their newest, homegrown digital app, simply dubbed Smart Life. It’s a reflection of the company’s new digital focus, as it integrates several aspects of the digital lifestyle – music, video, freebies and the ability to buy game credits online without needing a credit card.
“Our approach over the years have been very consistent, in using the technology that’s right in front of us. and that is to humanize technology so that we lead this country to embrace the digital life, what we call the Smart life,” Ariel Fermin, PLDT and Smart executive vice president and head of consumer business said during the launch of the app last night.
Smart has teamed up with folks at Cignal and iFlix to give users of the app free access to video content that spans both international movies and TV series, as well as original, locally made content. At launch, there will be at least 20 movies and TV series to choose from within the app, and Smart is eyeing at refreshing the content with new titles every week. While the content is free, the app uses data when users watch movies and TV shows, so make sure you’re either enrolled in a promo or connected to a WiFi hotspot before you start watching.
Smart has a similar setup for the music component of the Smart Life app – you’re given free access to music that’s curated by Smart. You can listen to these titles straight from the app. and Smart hopes that’ll be enough to make you want to check out the entire music library in their Spinnr music service.
Let’s move on to purchasing stuff online, namely, game credits. The app makes it easier for gamers to purchase game credits on Steam, the PlayStation Network, EPins for Leage of Legends, etc., without requiring the need for a credit card. The app simply deducts the cost of the credits purchased against a user’s current balance (if a prepaid customer) or current MSF (if a post paid user).
Finally, the app also gives Smart subscribers access to free perks and freebies. Smart has partnered with many merchants and stores to give additional value to its subscribers, stores like SM, Jollibee, Flawless and others.
The app is free to download from the Google Play store – Smart will be releasing an iOS version soon.
