Sharp Unveils New Bezel-less Aquos S2

More options for people who hate bezels

Japanese manufacturer Sharp introduced yet another bezel-less smartphone with their latest device: the Aquos S2. Just like other flagships that we’ve seen so far this year, the Aquos S2 has almost non-existent bezels on the sides and top of the phone.

Sharp Aquos S2 specs

  • 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630/660 processor
  • 4GB, 6GB RAM
  • 5.5-inch Sharp Free Form Display, 2040 x 1080 resolution
  • 64GB, 128GB internal storage
  • 12-megapixel f/1.75 PDAF primary rear camera, 8-megapixel dual rear cameras with Dual LED Flash
  • 8-megapixel front camera
  • Dual SIM
  • 4G LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, fingerprint scanner, USB Type C
  • Android 7.1 Nougat
  • 3,020mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0

The front-facing camera is situated at the same place though, which means there’s a small break in the display at the top-most part. The display is a 5.5-inch 2K panel that has its corners cut out. It’s a weird design choice for a phone for sure, but Sharp probably had good reasons for doing that.

The phone sports dual-cameras on the rear, arranged vertically much like Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8. As far as sensors go, the rear cameras are composed of a 12-megapixel primart sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary camera, with both snappers having f/1.75 lenses.

Despite its appearance, the Aquos S2 is a mid-range phone though, as it sports just a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There’s an even more expensive high edition of the phone that bumps the processor to the Snapdragon 660, ups the RAM to 6GB and has roomier storage at 128GB. Battery for both is 3,020mAh, and the two devices come with Android Nougat out of the box.

The Aquos S2 is a China-only phone for now, and will start at RMB 2499 or around 18.8K pesos.
