5 Reasons You Need To Take MG’s 2019 RX5 For A Test Drive, Now

British Heritage At A Price You Can Afford

Morris Garages or MG is one of the oldest names in the automotive industry. It’s been around in some form or another since the brand was established in the UK in 1924, and the company has re-launched in the Philippines this year with three new vehicles. While the MG6 and the MG ZS are all worthy of an article all their own, the company’s 1.5-liter AT Style RX5 is the one you should be taking a look at if you want a compact SUV with all the bells and whistles of a much more expensive SUV, but not the high sticker price that usually comes with one. Here are 5 compelling reasons why you need to take it for a test drive ASAP:

1.) It looks pretty sharp

While the RX5 is a completely different beast from MG’s iconic T Type sports cars that people fell in love with back in the 40’s, there’s still a lot of that refined, British styling in the RX5. The sweeping lines, imposing wing-shaped grille along with futuristic looking square LED headlamps, and an inner-cut swallowtail on the rear make the vehicle feel sporty and refined at the same time.

The five-spoke, two-tone 18-inch rims complement the car’s European styling, and the RX5 is equipped with daytime running lights for enhanced visibility. The design of the RX5 is the brainchild of MG’s modern design studio in Central London.

2.) The interior is pretty lush

While the RX5 is very reasonably priced for a compact SUV, you wouldn’t know it once you take a peek at the interior. The extremely modern cabin, dashboard, and door inserts are finished in high-grade materials. The seat cushions and backrests are ergonomically designed, and there’s enough room to comfortably fit five people inside the car.

A modern dash, as well as a high-tech infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen that runs Apple CarPlay, will keep you and your occupants entertained when you’re inevitably stuck in Manila traffic.

And storage won’t be a problem thanks to a roomy luggage compartment, along with 60/40 foldable rear seats.

3.) Plenty of luxury features to be had

Aside from the lush interior, the RX5 has a lot of high-end features integrated into it. This includes hands-free operation of the entertainment system, a parking camera, remote trunk opening, cruise control, hill descent control, electric parking brake, a tire pressure monitoring system, and more. That’s a lot of convenience and tech packed into a ride with a very attainable price point – you’d be hard-pressed to find another compact SUV that offers all of that at the price that MG is asking for the RX5.

4.) Powerful 1.5-liter engine

The MG RX5 has enough oomph to get you from point A to point B in style. A 1.5 liter, four cylinder, 16-valve DOHC turbocharged engine provides 169 Ps at 5,600 RPM, along with 250 Nm of torque at 1,700 to 4,400 rpm. That’s mated with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with manual Tiptronic function. With the turbocharged engine, you’re getting the best of both worlds: fuel economy when driving in stop-and-go city traffic and power when you’re cruising down the highway.

Couple that with a fully independent suspension, along with disc brakes up front and at the rear, and you have an SUV that’s quick and nimble while providing a smooth ride with real stopping power.

There’s a ton of safety features built into it too. Multiple airbags that dot the interior of the RX5 keep the driver and passengers safe. ABS, EBD, and TCS make sure that the driver always has positive control of the vehicle at all times, even during adverse driving conditions.

5.) It’s within reach of most Filipino families

Usually, vehicles that have the RX5’s European styling, and modern tech and hardware retail for several millions of pesos, which makes them out of reach for the typical Filipino family. Luckily, you don’t have to pay a lot to get a lot with the RX5 – the MG RX5 starts at just Php 1,058,888 for the M/T Core variant and Php 1,288,888 for the higher-end A/T Style variant.

What’s even better is the fact that you can drive home an RX5 for just a low, downpayment of Php 100,000, all in, thanks to their low downpayment introductory promo running ‘til the end of December 2018.

The best part of this is that you can check out the RX5 along with MG’s other offerings at the following MG Philippines pop-up stores:
