Grab Introduces GrabTrike Premium Service

The service will first roll out in Pangasinan

Ride-hailing app Grab expands its services by introducing a premium version of its GrabTrike service. For the new service, Grab partnered with AutoItalia Philippines—the exclusive local distributor of Piaggio Apé vehicles—to deploy 2000 Piaggio Ape City FI units.

The premium tricycles is a commercial vehicle version of the Vespa Scooter and boast of a maximum load capacity of 300 kilograms. Available in either gas or diesel, the Piaggio Ape City FI has a mileage of up to 38 kilometers per liter and comply with Euro-4 standards.

The service is targeted towards marginalized areas where there is little access to bigger modes of transport. “Through our combined efforts with AutoItalia Philippines, we hope to work with LGUs to improve short-distance commute in more cities in the Philippines while improving driver welfare and passenger experience,” Grab Philippines CEO Brian Cu said.

The service initially rolled out in Binalonan, Pangasinan last October 25 using 24 Piaggio Ape vehicles. Passengers have to pay a Php 10 booking fee, but the fee goes directly to the drivers.
