TWG Increases Motorcycle Taxi Cap to 21,000

TWG Increases Motorcycle Taxi Cap to 21,000

At the condition that all motorcycle taxi firms have to drop charges

In order to appease motorcycle taxi firms who have been complaining about DoTR-TWG’s guidelines, DoTR-TWG chair Antonio Gardiola Jr confirmed in an interview with ANC Early Edition that it will be increasing the biker cap from 13,000 to 21,000 per motorcycle firm.

In the interview, Gardiola said that they have agreed on this with the TWG and the three motorcycle taxi firms: Angkas, JoyRide, and Move It. The new cap covers 15,000 riders in Metro Manila, 3,000 riders in Cebu, and 3,000 riders in Cagayan de Oro. The addition of the latter is due to the TWG recognizing the need to do a pilot run in other urban areas.

As an agreement to the new biker cap, all three firms will have to withdraw their cases against TWG.

“We agree that all cases filed against the technical working group will be withdrawn. They agreed on that. And during the period of the study, no cases will be filed constraining the TWG on some aspects, especially the guidelines,” Gardiola said.

This development follows after the TWG withdrew its initial decision of prematurely ending the pilot run.
