VIRAL: The Beep, a 16-Seater Modern Jeepney

ABS-CBN correspondent Jacque Manabat shows us a guided glimpse of the Beep or “Bagong Jeep”, a 16-seater modernized jeepney currently being tested at the Lagro-Cubao route and parts of Marikina.

Edit: Corrected the seating capacity of the Beep to 16-seater. Thanks for the call out, readers!

For the trial run, 6 Beep jeeps are currently traversing the Lagro-Cubao route, along with Parang to Stop & Shop Marikina route. The minimum fare, for now, is set at Php 7.00.

The Beep jeepney is a wide, 16-seater vehicle with a curbside entrance. Sporting a Euro-compliant engine, a Beep unit costs around Php 1.3 million.

For automated fare collection, reloadable Beep prepaid cards can be used for the passengers’ convenience.

No details on when (or if) the Beep will be rolled out en masse for public use.┬áHere’s hoping they do, and soon.

  1. Parang singapore na ah. ? At least makikita ntin may improvement sa transportation ntin. Sana sa yung next nila is ung next is pag lalagay na ng loading station sa prepaid card. Or mag implement cla ng all in 1 public transportation card.

  2. Appears to be similar to the eComet service plying the SM North ?-> Katipunan route? Electric-powered din ba?

Why is the government so silent on the price of each electric jeepney? The government and Pasang Masda had plans to replace the country’s jeepneys with ejeepneies. What really happened to that plan now?

Since it cost more than 1M a piece, only a handful of operators can afford this. At mahirap ang ROI nyan. If I were an operator, mas maganda pa mag invest sa taxi.
