Cherry Mobile Pulse

The Pulse is one of the few smartphones in this list that has a rather affordable price but uses 1.7GHz MediaTek octa-core processor instead of the slower 1.4GHz variant that’s favored by other companies. The Pulse once held the crown of the most affordable octa-core smartphone before being overthrown by the next entry in this list, the SKK Phoenix X1. For the money you’re getting a rather fast, full featured smartphone. The Pulse was originally priced at Php 6,499.

SKK Mobile Phoenix X1

SKK Mobile’s Phoenix X1 took the title of the Philippines’ most affordable octa-core phone from Cherry Mobile when it was announced a few months back, but not everything was as promised. The original spec sheet said that the Phoenix X1 had a 1.7GHz octa-core processor, much like the Cherry Mobile Pulse, but reports from early buyers told a different story and a slower 1.4GHz octa-core processor. Speaking of buyers, availability was a big issue for many – the Phoenix X1 has been rather difficult to find for many who went to malls intent to buy it. The SKK Mobile Phoenix X1 is priced at Php 5499.

The Cloudfone Excite 501o is priced at Php 4,999.

Cherry Mobile Me Vibe

It’s not surprising that Cherry Mobile has the most affordable octa-core smartphone in the land – this is the company that managed to disrupt the pricing of its competitors in the 5-inch affordable quad-core market after all. Interestingly, Cherry Mobile’s new octa-core smartphone also signals the willingness of the company to ply the e-commerce route that’s been the favored weapon of Chinese brand Xiaomi. Whether or not this is a new strategy for the company moving forward, or just a one off experiment, only time will tell. The Me Vibe is priced at Php 3,999.
