We go hands-on with Acer’s Liquid Leap

The Acer Liquid Leap proved to be quite elusive back in June during COMPUTEX as we weren’t able to lay our hands on it to take a looksie at the company’s first ever wearable. Well, we finally managed to get some hands-on time during the company’s gala event last night.

The Liquid Leap is a smartwatch/fitness tracker that’s less conspicuous than the offerings of their competitors. It’s thin, small and has a small LCD display. Now the display of the Liquid Leap may be more simple compared to oh, Samsung’s Gear 2, but it does the job of conveying all the pertinent information to you like if you have a call or text.

To unlock the Liquid Leap, you have to put your finger over the top of the display for a second to unlock it, then swipe to navigate through it.

The Liquid Leap also acts like an activity tracker, giving you feedback on how many steps you’ve taken, the number of calories you’ve burned, how far you’ve walked and stuff like that. There’s a companion app that comes with the Liquid Leap that gives you an idea of what you’ve been doing the entire day.

Acer estimates the battery life of the Liquid Leap to be around 4 to 7 days depending on the use, and much like many wearables out there charges on a specialized charging pad through the contacts on the bottom of the wearable. No price has been set yet, but Acer is targeting an affordable price for the Liquid Leap compared to its competitors. You can see it in action below:
