Apple Unveils Glass-Backed, A11-Powered iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

Apple has finally unwrapped the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus improves on the design of the iPhone 7, using an Aerospace-grade aluminum and a steel-reinforced glass back. It also retains the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus’ water and dust resistance, along with its stereo speakers that are 25% louder.

The glass back found on the 8 and 8 Plus give them support for Qi wireless charging. Aside from support from third-party from Belkin and mophie, both phones can be charged with the upcoming AirPower wireless charging mat.

Both iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are equipped with a Retina HD display that has a cinema-wide color gamut and True Tone display:

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus is powered by an A11 Bionic Chip, equipped with 6 cores: two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, along with an Apple-designed GPU chip, making it more powerful than the A10 chip found in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The new chip gives both phones processing power for machine learning, AR apps and immersive 3D games. iOS 11 powers both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, bringing in new features like an improved Portrait Mode and more expressive Live Photos.

Cameras on both phones are given an upgrade: The iPhone 8 is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, along with a new sensor and color filter. The iPhone 8 Plus, on the other hand, has dual 12-megapixel cameras, with a f/1.8 and f/2.8 aperture on its primary and secondary cameras. Both are equipped with optical image stabilization:

The iPhone 8 Plus now features Portrait lighting, incorporating studio lighting effects to your photographs.

Both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have improved video recording capabilities, thanks to Apple’s video encoder. With the new encoder both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus can render as much as 2 million tiles per second, and is capable of recording 1080p footage at 240 frames per second, in addition to 4K recording at 60 frames per second.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be available in 64GB and 256GB and will be available in Silver, Space Gray, and Blush Gold. Price starts at $699 (~Php 35.6k) for the iPhone 8 and $799 for the iPhone 8 Plus (~Php 40.7k). Both will start shipping on September 22.
