Apple’s iPhone 6s And 6s Plus Survive 1 Hour Underwater

Secretly waterproof?

While Apple’s new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are faster and better than the company’s previous smartphones, they’re not exactly what you’d call resistant to mother nature – since these phones are not IP rated, you should definitely keep them away from the elements as water will wreck them quite easily.

Or will it?

YouTuber Zach Straley decided to see if the phones would stand up to being dunked in water. Not just a momentary dip mind you – he dunked both phones in basins of water for around an hour and surprisingly both phones were still alive at the end of it.

Which is surprising, since neither phone has an ingress protection (IP) rating. If they did, you can bet that Apple would have shouted that feature at the top of their lungs, which they didn’t, so what exactly is happening here?

One theory is that Apple made the clearances of the parts of the new phones so tight that water has difficulty getting into it. Straley said that after both the 3.5mm jack and the lightning port was dried out, they worked perfectly again – even the speaker showed no signs of being dunked in water a few minutes before.

Obviously we’re not advocating you dunking your brand-spanking new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus phones in water, but if you did accidentally drop it in H2O, there’s a good chance it’ll survive if you manage to snatch it out right away.
