Great Bluetooth speaker from Capdase!

Today’s market is flooded with portable Bluetooth speakers under Php 2,000. With a market this saturated, it’s hard to weed out the bad speakers from the awesome. Capdase sent us the Beat SOHO to review to see if it’s deserving of your hard earned pesos.

Capdase Speakers?

We couldn’t help but think to myself ‘Capdase makes speakers?’ when we first saw the Beats SOHO. Usually all you see here in the Philippines are their cases and smartphone protection accessories. But it makes sense if you think about it – they’ve already made a name for themselves making other mobile accessories, so why not?

The design of the Beats SOHO is simple. It’s a circular shaped mini-can where the speakers are located at the top. The controls for the speaker are on the bottom. The side of the speaker is made of metal and has a plastic base. The Beats SOHO’s red paint job is textured and is soft to the touch, allowing you to get a solid grip on the speaker. Aside from red, there are other colors available, including gray and black.

Once you lift it you’ll notice that it’s surprisingly heavy, considering its size. At the bottom are the toggle switches for the volume and tracks and the switches for the modes.

At the back is a familiar but old mini USB slot to charge the device with which might be a hassle to some since the mini USB, as a port, is getting obsolete fast. You also need to use the provided mini USB cable to 3.5mm jack in order to use the auxiliary feature of the speakers, which is a bit inconvenient as you need to bring the cable with you all the time.

Sound Quality

What’s impressive about this speaker is that it packs a punch! Seriously speaking the reason why its heavy (300g) for its small size is that it uses its own weight to produce bass. This is a departure from other entry level Bluetooth speakers in the market which have weak and almost non-existent bass.

Sound quality is crisp and clean but lacks highs and unfortunately it can only handle a certain amount of volume before the sound begins to distort. Nevertheless, it can effortlessly fill a 10-15sq meter room with music.

Although the device has a lot of bass, it all depends on the surface you place you put the speakers on. During our tests, we found that putting it on a top of a carton box, shallow wood desk, and glass table amplifies the bass and gives the best results. Just remember to place the speaker somewhere sturdy yet shallow so it can produce better bass. To be honest a lot of people were impressed with its small size and powerful bass including our co-contributor Colin Chan.

Battery Life

We were surprised to achieve more than 9 hours of playing time with the Beats SOHO. Impressive, considering the small size of the device and its overall battery capacity.

Verdict: great Bluetooth speakers for people on a budget

We wholeheartedly recommend the Capdase speaker to people looking for a budget portable Bluetooth speaker. Don’t be fooled by its size – it pumps out quality audio at a price you can afford.

The Beats SOHO is now available in Capdase Authorized Resellers, Beyond the Box, Digital Walker, Digital Hub and More.
